  34.      Terfenadine should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed
  35. container.  The tablets should not be exposed to high temperatures (above
  36. 104 degrees_F), direct sunlight, or moisture during storage.

  38. USES
  39.  
  40.      Terfenadine is used to treat the symptoms of allergy, including sneezing,
  41. runny nose, itching, and tearing.  It belongs to a group of drugs known as
  42. antihistamines, which acts by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical
  43. that is released by the body during an allergic reaction.
  44.  
  45. TREATMENT
  46.  
  47.      Terfenadine can be taken either on an empty stomach or with food or milk
  48. (unless your doctor directs otherwise).
  49.      Terfenadine should be taken only as needed to control the symptoms of
  50. allergy.
  51.      If you miss a dose of this medication and you are taking it on a regular
  52. schedule, take the missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is almost time
  53. for your next dose.  In that case, do not take the missed dose at all; just
  54. return to your regular dosing schedule.  Do not double the next dose.
  55.  
  56. SIDE EFFECTS
  57.  
  58.      Minor.
  59.  
  60.      Abdominal pain; cough; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, nose, or throat;
  61. fatigue; headache; increased appetite; insomnia; nausea; nervousness;
  62. nosebleeds; sore throat; sweating; vomiting; or weakness.  These side effects
  63. should disappear as your body adjusts to this medication.
  64.      To reduce mouth dryness, chew sugarless gum or suck on ice chips or hard
  65. candy.
  66.      If you feel dizzy or light-headed, sit or lie down for a while; get up
  67. slowly from a sitting or reclining position, and be careful on stairs.

  69.      Major.
  70.  
  71.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  72. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  73. depression, hair loss, itching, menstrual disorders, muscle or bone pain,
  74. nightmares, palpitations, shortness of breath, tingling of your fingers or
  75. toes, tremors, urinary frequency, visual disturbances, or yellowing of the
  76. skin or eyes.

  78. INTERACTIONS
  79.  
  80.      Terfenadine interacts with the following medications:
  81.      1. The combination of terfenadine and ketocorcizole can result in
  82. increased adverse effects.
  83.      2. The combination of terfenadine and certain antibiotics, such as
  84. erythromycin and troleandomycin, can result in increased adverse effects.
  85.      BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about any medications you are currently
  86. taking, especially any listed above.

  88. WARNINGS
  89.  
  90.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  91. any medications, especially to terfenadine.
  92.      * Before starting terfenadine, tell your doctor if you now have or if you
  93. have ever had asthma.
  94.      * Terfenadine causes less drowsiness than other antihistamines.  However,
  95. until you see how it affects you, be cautious about performing tasks that
  96. require alertness, such as driving a car or operating potentially dangerous
  97. machinery.
  98.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  This drug's safety
  99. in human pregnancy has not been established.  Also, tell your doctor if you
  100. are breast-feeding.  The effects of terfenadine on nursing infants are not yet
  101. known.
